7 Days No Shouting Challenge
Ever shouted before even realising what you were saying? We’ve all been there. One moment you’re trying to get shoes on, the next, your voice is echoing off the walls — and you’re left wondering how it escalated so quickly.
Welcome to Day 2 of the No Shouting Challenge. If you’re here, it means you’re serious about breaking old habits and learning new tools to bring calm and connection back into your parenting. Today, we explore one of the most powerful tools in your parenting toolbox – The Pause.
Why Do We React So Fast? Our brains are wired to protect and respond. But when stress is high and patience is low, our reactions become automatic. Shouting often isn’t about the child — it’s about the pace. When we respond too quickly, we don’t give ourselves time to choose a better way.
The Pause is a Reset Button. It may sound small, but pausing before responding gives you power. Power to:
- Slow your breathing
- Notice what you’re about to say
- Choose connection over control
Even 5 seconds can change the direction of a heated moment.
How to Use the Pause: Try this:
- Close your eyes for 3 seconds
- Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth
- Say silently: “This is not an emergency.”
In that brief pause, you shift from reaction to reflection. You become the calm your child needs.
